Dr Giraud Campbell is an osteopathic doctor who outlines a treatment for arthritis in this book, now out of print, based on

Dr. Campbell graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1931.  He had practiced in New York State for over 40 years, was one of the founders of the Long Island Osteopathic Society, and was a member of several leading professional groups.

I first read this book several decades ago, and it left a lasting impression.  It was the beginning of my quest, the beginning of my journey, the beginning of my passion for health.  If I had not seen the before and after x-rays, I would have not believed such rapid and powerful healing could take place, especially in the bone structure of the body. 

I still remember seeing bone spurs on the heal and in the neck disappearing, people throwing away crutches, fingers and spines straightening, dissolving of bony overgrowth and increasing of joint space in knees, a very elderly lady that had been bedridden for so long and had bed sores that wouldn’t heal - was up and around doing house work and knitting with her hands.  What was most impressive to me at the time, was how the diet could fill in holes in the pelvis from osteoarthritis, and in the same person at the same time, dissolve deposits in the finger joints from rheumatoid arthritis.  It led me to do further research and discover the potential of the human body to heal itself if given the right materials and withholding the harmful materials. 

One of the most impressive things this book led me to discover was the power of raw foods in helping the human body.  People have even obtained extremely impressive results using raw foods with their dogs and cats.  We are trying to deal with diseases today that should only be in the history books.  Life begets life.  Fresh, natural, unprocessed raw living foods are necessary for a healthy living body. 
  • Cooking food above 118°F for destroys 100% of the enzymes, destroys 30-50% of the vitamins and minerals, coagulates the proteins, caramelizes the sugars, diminishes antioxidants, and turns the natural fiber into mush so we no longer have the needed broom to help sweep the intestines clean.
  • Raw foods are easily digested, requiring only 24-36 hours for transit time through the digestive tract, as compared to 40-100 hours for cooked foods, thus increasing the threat of putrefaction and disease.

  • Dr. Paul Kouchakoff’s research at the Institute of Clinical Research in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1930, showed cooked food caused digestive leukocytosis, or an increase in white blood cells, a normal reaction if the body is acting to something harmful, such as infection, injury, or toxins.  Eating fresh raw foods showed no stress on the immune system or no increase in the white blood cell count.
  • Dr. Kouchakoff’s research also showed that processed foods (i.e. white flour, white rice, homogenized milk, pasteurized milk, regular table salt, etc.) caused pathological leukocytosis.

Don’t worry about names that people attach to different dis-eases in the body.  Let your focus be on doing the best you can do and being the healthiest you can be.  The body was designed to be immortal under the right conditions and will take care of itself.  We apparently just have to do our part. 

Back to the book, arthritis can be extremely painful, in addition to being crippling.  But “One of the greatest pains to human nature is the pain of a new idea” ~ Walter Bagehot 1826-1877.  You can find a lot of arguing about weather cooking food is good for you or not, or what type of cooking and how much cooking.  But for those who are looking for the best of the best, it appears fresh, natural, raw whole foods are the best.  The proof is in the pudding.  Keep in mind Dr Campbell’s program also required cleansing and mild exercise.  A single healthful action gets a little result.  A combination of healthful actions gets huge results. 

Remember health is a two sided coin...  you have to give the body what it needs to do what it was designed to do, and you have to withhold or avoid those things which are damaging.  Remember balance.  Remember synergy.
